When it comes to buying gifts I am not one to buy the usual candle, bath sets and socks! I love to find something unique and original, but that most importantly does not cost the earth. Buying some designers and artists pieces does not mean that you have to take out a loan, save for months or make the recipient feel uncomfortable at the value of your well thought out gift. That is why I love to buy reasonably priced, individually made designers pieces. Here are some of my favourites.
I cant deny that I am a women who loves jewellery, but there is nothing worse than going out on an evening and fashioning the same neck ware as other women at the same event. I was thrilled when I discovered Julia Designs and love buying her striking jewellery items. Her designs are so on trend and at the hight of fashion without having to break your bank balance. She uses a fabulous range of high quality beads from Swarovski crystals and David Christensen glass beads to fresh water pearls. Her pieces are all handcrafted to a very high standard and have been adored by everyone that I have given as a birthday or Christmas gifts. All her jewellery is available from £12.00 – £60.00 and comes presented in a gorgeous silver gift box. A truly fabulous gift for any female friend or a special little treat for yourself.
Damian Keefe Pottery
So here is a designer that I am very passionate about at the moment. Mostly because I want to change all of my kitchen ware to his fabulous pottery pieces and secondly because he has filled that christmas present void. I always have a few family members that I struggle to buy for at christmas, when I saw Damian’s pieces I was struck with the stylish look of his pieces and also how he could mix a contemporary and a traditional feel. From mugs to vases, jugs to expresso sets his talents are endless. The style he adopts would look at home in almost every household which is why his pottery is such an original gift, now buying those tricky presents is not so daunting!
Jo Clarke Designs
Now here is an artist you may well of heard of. Her pieces have even been featured in vogue magazine, so imagine my joy when I realised that even I could easily afford her beautiful hand painted glass ware. All her glass is recycled and her designs are truly stunning. I own a set of her goblet style wine glasses that were given to me as a Christmas gift. They never fail to stir comments and compliments when friends come over for an evening socialising. I now buy jo’s pieces when ever I am looking for a wedding gift of house warming presents, I also never fail to drop hints to my boyfriend that I feel that our collection really should grow!
