There are two types of people in the world. There are those who are crazy about golf, and then there’s everybody else! If you are one of the golf enthusiasts that dot our country’s courses throughout the season, then this is your season.
It’s been a long winter, and it’s time to dust off your gear and go. Golf is one of those sports that you can play alone or with friends. You can have a friendly competition, or you can play against yourself. You can improve your game for literally your entire life, and it is generally a very social sport.
So check your clubs and make sure that they are in great shape. Replace any grips that are worn and upgrade any clubs that is past its prime. It always feels good to hold an time worn, familiar club in your hand. As you take both hands and firmly grip he handle of the club, it’s kind of like greeting an old friend. There’s something soothing about the weight, the grip, and the club altogether.
So as you line up for your first swing, stop a minute and pay a little attention to your grip. There are as many different ways to hold your golf club as there are golfers in the world. If you have smaller hands, you can use an interlocking grip to get every bit of power possible out of your swing. If you have a lot of strength in your arms and wrists, you may choose to use an overlapping grip to send that ball soaring. If you’re brand new to the sport you may be using a baseball grip just to get started, but you will want to learn to use the interlocking grip or the overlapping grip as soon as possible. A golf glove goes a long way towards developing a comfortable grip, and when you’re comfortable you are relaxed. This is important because if you want to have a magnificent swing that really launches the ball, you have to hit through the ball as opposed to hitting at the ball. If you are relaxed you will be able to follow through all the way through to the end of your swing. However, if something is a little off and you’re tense, then your swing will likely not have a good follow through; and you’ll be wondering why you ever enjoyed this game in the first place!
So get out there, relax and enjoy the sunshine!
